I can't get enough of this stuff. We make no secret about how much we love tobacco notes in our fragrances, and there are dozens of materials we use to create our tobacco accords, but if I had to chose just one?
Kephalis is unmistakably tobacco, but it isn't just tobacco. It is a the wooden cigar box, the sweet waft of a humidor opening, but also slightly woody, resinous, and impossibly smooth. It is versatile enough to be used when you are just trying to round out the edges of sharper woods like cedar, or add depth and a bit of darkness to red florals. But we find it indespensible for tobacco.
If you are just getting started, try playing with accords using Kephalis, Traesolide, Cashmeran, and Kohinool--the holy trinity (plus 1) of velvet woods.
